The Board of Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Tim Allard as AWC’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

Tim, who joined AWC in 2011 as its National Operations Manager, has been acting in the role of CEO since July 2018.

During his time as National Operations Manager, Tim has overseen the development and implementation of the organisation’s Operations and Land Management staff and programs, and worked on ground-breaking partnerships with Indigenous groups, state governments and the Department of Defence. Since joining AWC, the organisation has grown to become one of Australia’s leading conservation organisations.

Growing up in the Victorian region of East Gippsland, Tim was exposed to the concepts and issues relating to conservation from an early age. Tim’s career includes a decade of service in the Royal Australian Navy, followed by extensive operations and project management throughout the mining, energy, water and Defence sectors. Tim is the organisation’s second CEO.

AWC is the biggest private owner and manager of land for conservation in Australia, owning or managing more than 4.6 million hectares of land. AWC also develops high value relationships, working in partnership with Indigenous groups, pastoralists and Government to implement its innovative model for conservation.

Today, AWC protects more Australian species than any other non-Government organisation including:

  • 72 per cent of all native mammal species;
  • 88 per cent of all native bird species;
  • 54 per cent of all native reptile species; and
  • 54 per cent of native amphibian species.

AWC started 27 years ago when its founder, the late Martin Copley AM, purchased a single property for conservation in south-western Australia. That property became AWC’s first wildlife sanctuary, Karakamia.
